Where In The UK Is Good For Cycling

02 Aug 2022

With so many glorious regions to choose from for your cycling holiday in Great Britain, it can get tricky knowing where in the UK is actually good for cycling.

Not to worry, our experienced team in Kirkby Stephen are here to advice and share some of their personal tips. From Cornwall to Cumbria and everything in between.

        1. Cornwall

Cornwall is the perfect destination for a relaxing beach cycling holiday, with its superb stretches of coast, intriguing shipwrecks, fascinating pirate-past, and delicious cornish pasties. There are many inland and coastal paths that are exceptionally good for cycling as there is little other traffic. On top of that, the scenery keeps surprising you at every turn.

        2. Yorkshire

There's even a dedicated route to discover the beauty of the iconic national park in northern England: The Yorkshire Dales Cycleway. It's a fantastic way to take in traditional English villages, castles & churches. You can choose to lock up your bikes and walk to features such as waterfalls, rivers or museums. There's plenty of opportunity to keep you fueled as well as this is the home of Wensleydale Cheese and there are many cycling-friendly pubs & tearooms.

        3. Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is a perfect destination for those travellers looking for a pleasant introduction into a cycling holiday. The British countryside here is filled with gentle hills and flat paths that take you through postcard-perfect English villages. This part of Britain is good if you're looking for the quintessentially English cycling experience.

        4. Isle of Wight

If you're looking for a short and lovely active break away, cycling on the Isle of Wight will be a good option for you. You make a full loop around the island in as little as 3 days cycling. Half of the isle is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so you can be assured of seeing splendid views such as the Needles, the attractive hills and villages by Bembridge Down, and the sun-drenched estuary around Newport.

        5. Cumbria

If you like variety on your cycling break in the UK, there's a bike trail in Cumbria which will be a good fit for you: Hadrian's Cycleway. It follows the reign of the Romans from the Cumbrian coast to Tynemouth on the North Sea. Along the way there are many English attractions, such as Eden Valley, local fresh food markets, Roman forts & museums, and the charming villages England is famous for, such as Carlisle, Hexham, and Haltwhistle.

Good for lots of variety on a cycling holiday in the UK: Cumbria
