In Popular Demand: eBikes for UK Cycling Holidays

24 Mar 2022

They have grown in popularity over the past few years: e-bikes – also known as electric bicycles or booster bikes. This type of bicycle can be a fantastic option if you want to go on a UK bike tour but are unsure about:

  • each day's distance covered
  • the altimeters involved
  • or your capabilities in relation to those of your cycling buddies.

With an e-bike you still need to pedal yourself, but it involves extra assistance that can make your cycling much lighter. And with today’s techniques, e-bikes look much like any other bike that you already know.

Physical Differences Between eBike & Standard Bike

When you look closely, there are a few physical differences though.

Battery

Such as the battery, which is usually placed under the rear rack of your bike or sometimes mounted to the middle of the frame or even in the tubing. It makes the e-bike heavier than normal bicycles. To make sure your battery won’t run low, in the evenings you can recharge the battery at your hotel.

GPX Computer

The second physical difference is a small display on the handlebar of an electric bike that looks a bit like a GPX computer, this is the on-board ebike computer. You use it to set the strength of the extra push forward that you desire. This motor input is called the ‘assistance level’.

Biggest Advantage of Electric Bike Tours

So at first instance, a cycling trip with an electric bike won’t seem much different than it was before the e-bike came to exist. In reality, you will certainly feel the difference in your cycling experience.

One of the biggest advantages of an electric bicycle we believe is that they make it possible for two or more people with other levels of fitness to still enjoy a great cycling holiday together.

Where couples, families or friends each had to choose a different type of holiday before, the e-bike makes taking bike tours together possible again.

Across the UK, the e-bikes have already found their place in the cycling culture and are therefore readily available on all of our cycling holidays. For further guidance, scroll down for some great ideas for electric bike cycling breaks in the UK
